Our son, now 3.5 years, was diagnosed at 2 years of age with autism. Concerns at the time of diagnosis included speech delay, gross motor delays, poor social referencing, stereotypical behaviors and some sensory issues. Since diagnosis, he has been in a home-based ABA program with much success in terms of language, functional communication, and general behavior. Other therapies include OT and RDI. We have undergone a 4 month trial of a GFCF diet with no real change, so we are back on a regular diet.
Our son is in a private preschool 3 mornings per week with a shadow. Inclusion in a mainstream classroom seems to have helped quite a bit with social issues, but he has only been there for 3 weeks, so the jury is still out! We live in the Salt Lake school district, but as of yet have not used their services.
