Our son, age 3, was diagnosed with PDD NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) at 17 months. Primary symptoms were lack of response to his name and lack of pointing/showing/sharing.
His speech was never delayed, but he has some echolalia, idiosyncratic speech and excessive noise-making. He has been in treatment in our home since his diagnosis.
Interventions include ABA, RDI, OT, NET and Socialization.
Strengths include: excellent language, creativity, imaginative play, curiosity, some interest in peers, sense of humor, affectionate.
Challenges include: perseverant behaviors, repetitive play, CONTROL issues, running off, rebellion, deficits in social and emotional reciprocity (including conversation) and some auditory, olfactory and tactile sensitivities (although not severe).
We live in Salt Lake School District, but have not used their services.
